Phoenix Officer-Involved Shooting In Ahwatukee

​The Phoenix Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened just before 11 p.m. on Thursday May 21, 2020.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened just before 11 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2020.

This started as a domestic violence call to 911. The caller reported hearing a verbal fight coming from inside a neighbor's apartment. A second call to 911 said the exchange had become physical.

The officers arrived on the scene, approaching the apartment near Desert Foothills Parkway and Chandler Boulevard. As they knocked on the door and announced themselves as Phoenix Police, a 40-year-old man opened the door and moved toward one of the officers, armed with a gun. The other officer fired his weapon, hitting the man. He died at the scene. No other officers or community members were injured in this incident.

The officers involved include a 53-year-old who is a 23-year veteran of the force and a 33-year-old who has been with Phoenix Police for 2 years.
