Phoenix Kid Stuck In Chimney: ‘Don’t Know What We Were Thinking’
Two Phoenix teens were locked out of the house. One decided to slide down the chimney, just like Santa. It turned out to be a terrible idea.
PHOENIX, AZ — A Phoenix teen recently shattered, or at least cast doubt on, one of the myths of Christmas. St. Nick would probably get stuck if he slid down the chimney.
A 17-year-old named Nicole certainly did. And she wasn’t encumbered by a bulky bag full of toys, either.
Nicole and her friend, Yazmine, came home Thanksgiving Eve to find themselves locked out of Yazmine’s home. So, rather than call Yazmine’s parents, break down a door or pry open a window, up to the rooftop Nicole went.

She hopped into the chimney, expecting a smooth flight down.
It didn't happen that way — at all.

Nicole got stuck in the chimney just above the flue, the pipe that carries away fumes from a lit fireplace.
In retrospect, trying to enter the house via the chimney was a terrible idea, Yazmine told news station KNXV.
“I don’t know what we were thinking,” Yazmine said. “She was just like, ‘Get me out, get me out.’ She was panicking … she was like, ‘I don’t know what to do, call 911.' ”
Nicole was wedged in the chimney for about an hour before Phoenix firefighters were able to pluck her out, the Arizona Republic reported.
She was covered in soot but otherwise OK and was checked out at a Phoenix hospital, The Associated Press reported.
Yazmine’s parents, who were at a movie when the drama unfolded, were steamed when they heard what was going on at their home.
“They were so mad,” Yazmine told news station KSAZ. “Really mad.”
