Update: 3 Injured In Shooting At Glendale's Westgate District

At least three people were injured in the shooting and the suspect was taken into custody, according to the Glendale Police Department.

GLENDALE, AZ — Three people were injured by gunfire Wednesday night, a result of a shooting in Glendale's Westgate Entertainment District. According to Glendale police, one victim is in critical condition while two sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said a suspect has been arrested. At a media briefing Wednesday night, Glendale Officer Tiffany Ngalula said police "challenged" him and were able to safely take him into custody.

Police have shut down Westgate and have used reverse 911 to notify nearby residents to stay inside their homes and avoid the area. Officers are going business to business to locate employees and any additional victims.

The shooting happened at 7:25 p.m. in the area of 95th and Glendale avenues. By the time officers arrived, the shooting had stopped and officers were able to locate the suspect.

Multiple witness accounts are circulating on social media, including a tweet by Sen. Martín Quezada, who said he was at Westgate at the time of the shooting and reported seeing the shooter with an AR-15 rifle. He also said he saw two victims with "his own eyes."

Gov. Doug Ducey tweeted about the incident Wednesday night, saying he was monitoring the situation closely.
