Special Election To Be Aug. 27 In Phoenix

Purpose

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, the City of Phoenix will conduct a Special Election in which registered voters will decide on two ballot measures that propose to amend City Charter provisions pertaining to Pensions and Light Rail. These two ballot measures are scheduled to appear on the ballot for the Aug. 27, 2019 Special Election.

1. The first measure is a proposed Charter Amendment submitted by Initiative I-4-18 pertaining to Light Rail.
2. The second measure is a proposed Charter Amendment submitted by Initiative I-1-18 pertaining to City of Phoenix Pensions.

Voting Centers

Voters in City of Phoenix elections are not required to vote at a specified polling place in the voter's precinct. Voters can use any of the voting centers to cast a ballot. The voting centers will be open for voting for THREE DAYS. This method of voting is only available for City of Phoenix elections. For faster service, voters are encouraged to bring their driver license, state-issued identification card, or voter identification card.
The voting centers for this election will be open for three days:

• Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Monday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Tuesday, August 27 (Election Day) from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Early Voting

City voters on the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL) will automatically receive an early ballot by mail unless they submitted a request to not receive a ballot by mail. Voters who are not on the PEVL can vote by mail by requesting an early ballot from the City of Phoenix no later than Friday, August 16, 2019. Voters will be able to request an early ballot or check their early ballot status online or by contacting City of Phoenix Elections at 602-261-8683 (VOTE). In-person early voting will be available on the 15th floor of Phoenix City Hall for this election from Wednesday, July 31, 2019 to Friday, August 23, 2019.

Publicity Pamphlet

The City will prepare and distribute a Publicity Pamphlet. Voters who requested to obtain the pamphlet electronically, which reduces printing and mailing costs, will receive an e-mail notice when the pamphlet is available online at Phoenix.gov/Elections. Voters can add their names to the list or update their email address by visiting the City's election webpage or by calling the City Clerk Department at 602-261-8683. A pamphlet will be mailed to each residence in the city of Phoenix that has a registered voter and is not receiving the pamphlet electronically. The pamphlet will be distributed the week of July 22, before early ballots are mailed.
