Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- Members of the Scottsdale City Council and Mayor David D. Ortega have requested that Gov. Katie Hobbs veto House Bill 2441, which would "force Scottsdale to provide utility service outside its boundaries." According to the letter, the bill risks "the wellbeing and interests of Scottsdale residents and businesses" by forcing the city to "violate its State required Drought Management Plan." In addition to a multitude of reasons listed for this veto request, the letter includes a reminder that Rio Verde Foothills residents "have been warned for years that the city would no longer be providing water." You can read the full letter to Gov. Hobbs here. (City of Scottsdale)
- Todd Bankofier has been named as chief executive officer and executive director of Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. Bankofier is a 35-year Scottsdale resident with "extensive experience in Arizona-based business leadership roles as well as... inspirational work in local community service." As a reminder, Western Spirit "features regularly changing and permanent exhibits of Western and Native American art and artifacts, entertaining events, and informative programs that bring the West's heritage, culture, and community to life." (Free: NewsDirect, Subscription: Daily Independent)
- Scottsdale Unified School District is looking for "bus drivers, bus aides and mechanics!" If you're interested in helping the wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round, then head to Pima Traditional School, 8330 E Osborn Road, on May 20 at 8 a.m. for the "Test Drive and Hire" event. At the event, candidates will fill out an application, undergo an interview, and test drive a bus. No previous bus driving experience is required, as SUSD "provides all of the training that will lead to your getting the Commercial Driver License." (scottsdale.org)
