1. ‌Arizona ‌Christmas ‌Help 2026: Where You Can Get Free Toys and Other Holiday Gifts for Your Family (raisingarizonakids.com) — Scottsdale families facing a tight Christmas budget can already apply for Vista del Camino's Adopt-a-Family program, which opened September 4 and serves local households with kids ages 2-17. If you're able to give, sponsor registration to support a Scottsdale family opened September 9, alongside many other Arizona toy and gift programs now gearing up for the 2026 holidays.
   

2. Vigilante justice or self-defense? North Scottsdale man deemed flight risk after shooting salesman (azfamily.com) — A North Scottsdale homeowner accused of shooting a 21-year-old door-to-door salesman in a gated community has been deemed a flight risk, with a judge denying his request to travel. The case is fueling debate over self-defense and Arizona's stand-your-ground laws, while the victim remains hospitalized and unable to walk as he works toward using a wheelchair.
   

3. Desert Foothills Book Festival returns to Holland Community Center in Scottsdale (yourvalley.net) — Scottsdale readers can look forward to the free Desert Foothills Book Festival at the Holland Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You'll be able to meet about 90 local authors, discover new books for all ages, enter raffles, and support literacy efforts benefiting the greater Phoenix, Scottsdale, Carefree, and Cave Creek communities.

Lookout Credit Union strikes creative gold at the Marketing Association of Credit Conference (idahostatejournal.com) — A national gathering of credit union marketers just wrapped up in Scottsdale, where the Marketing Association of Credit Unions handed out its 2026 MAC Awards. Under the desert sunshine, Lookout Credit Union and others were honored for standout campaigns, community engagement, and creative strategies that are shaping how credit unions connect with members nationwide.
   

5. NBA Star Arrested On Disturbing Charges, Body Cam Video Released (Watch) (gridironheroics.com) — A Phoenix Suns player is facing a misdemeanor DUI charge filed by Scottsdale prosecutors, stemming from a March traffic stop and arrest in the city. He was booked into Scottsdale City Jail and later released, and the case is now moving through the local court system, drawing added attention as the NBA season approaches.
