🌱 The Dangers Of A Hot Car + SPD Assists With Shooting + Cool Ice Den

But first, your local weather: It will be partly sunny and very hot, with a high of 114 and low of 90.

Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

1. Scottsdale Fire Department Capt. David Folio sat in a hot car with Arizona's Family reporter Casey Torres to raise awareness of the dangers of a hot car. Capt. Folio monitored Torres' heart rate and temperature during the seven minutes they were inside the vehicle. After one minute the thermometer overheated, and after two minutes it only read "HIGH" to indicate that the body temperature reached 104 degrees or above. Torres' heart rate went up 20 to 30 points within three minutes, and the car reached 140 degrees within five minutes. Capt. Folio explained that a child's core temperature can rise five times faster than an adults', and he suggested that drivers leave one of their shoes in the backseat as a reminder to grab it and take the child with them. 2. Scottsdale Police Department assisted Phoenix Police with a shooting near N. 64th Street and E. McDowell Road. Just before 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, officers received a call from a man stating he had been shot and was following the alleged shooters' vehicle. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, both suspects inside the vehicle ran off. One was taken into custody, but officers were still searching for the other suspect. The victim had non-life-threatening injuries, and the public was asked to stay out of the area pending further updates. (Arizona's Family)
3. If you are looking for a place to cool down and get some relief from the heat, consider checking out the Ice Den Scottsdale. The air temperate there is about half the temperature outside, staying at a cool 56 degrees. Public skate hours are limited since ice time is often booked for private parties and by leagues, but you can look for spots and make reservations online at icedenscottsdale.com/public-skating.
