Hello again, neighbors! It's Megan Moreno, your host of the Scottsdale Patch newsletter. Here's all the local news you need to know right now, including...

  • City of Scottsdale's communication on the $940,000 housing grant.
  • Gunshots were fired at a short-term rental property.
  • A senior facility will replace Old Town's Olive Garden.

But first, your weekend weather: You guessed it! It will be mostly sunny and hot, with a high of 110 and low of 84.

Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. The City of Scottsdale released a communication about the $940,000 grant accepted from the Arizona Department of Housing's Homeless Shelter and Services Fund. The grant "will allow the city to continue an existing program that provides those in need with emergency shelter at a Scottsdale hotel along with assistance from social services caseworkers and nutrition/essential needs support." With this program, Scottsdale rents 10 rooms at a hotel to provide bridge housing and services to homeless individuals with the goal of securing stable housing. The city noted that the preference is to provide these rooms to seniors, families with children, and women. Though the terms of the grant indicate that the rooms could be offered to legal migrants, "the rooms were completely filled by those experiencing homelessness locally" over the past year. (City of Scottsdale)
  2. A Fourth of July party at a Scottsdale short-term rental property ended in gunfire at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The property is off McClintock Drive and McKellips Road, and there were reportedly over 50 guests at the gathering when the gunfire started. Tyreele Craig, 23, was arrested for "discharging a firearm and not giving his real name to police." No injuries were reported. (Arizona's Family)
  3. The Scottsdale and Osborn Residential Health Care Facility is planned to replace the Olive Garden in Old Town, which is near HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center. The senior-focused facility will consist of two six-story buildings with capacity for over 200 beds to house "active adults" and adults in assisted living. According to the developers, "the synergy of uses between the proposed residential healthcare use and existing adjacent HonorHealth campus and commercial businesses will bolster the economic vitality offering an ideal context for seniors to 'age in place.'"
