Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- In the past year, "prices in the Phoenix area jumped 9.7 percent... food prices in our region increased by 5.4 percent, the data shows. Meat and eggs went up 14.5 percent. Energy prices spiked by more than 40 percent over the past year, largely because of the astronomical increase in gas prices, at 67.2 percent... natural gas service prices rose 33.5 percent, and electricity increased 11.7 percent over the past year," according to Patch reporting. Government consumer bailout programming has led to increased spending on big-ticket items, supply chain issues have affected item availability, as has a shortage of workers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report offered a glimmer of hope. "Biden has said his administration's investments in ports, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure would help ease inflation by loosening some snarled supply chains." (Patch)
- Five new homes are ready online, but the market is hopping. Patch reporting lists a new-to-market Scottsdale home with two beds and 1.5 baths for $395,000, and one in the Paradise Valley area with five beds and 5.5 baths for $5.6 million. Click on the link to see all five. (Scottsdale Patch)
- Seth Ettinger is Congregation Beth Israel's cantor, and for two years, he has been organizing a multifaith musical event to celebrate Congregation Beth Israel's centennial anniversary. "You can't have a centennial celebration without a huge musical experience and program," said Ettinger. According to Jewish News reporting, "the Feb. 27 concert, available both in-person and virtually, is a collaboration between CBI, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Phoenix and Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale." The concert will be at the Madison Center for the Arts. All performers will be vaccinated and masked while not singing, and the audience will wear masks for the concert's entirety. Doing a "Dry January" or just looking for a flavorful alternative to regular cocktails? Here's a suggestion: try a non-alcoholic drink from our partners at Betera. Created by an award-winning chef from natural botanicals, Betera's drinks come in 3 flavors — Ginger-Orange, Elderflower-Lime and Rhubarb-Hibiscus. We tried Ginger-Orange, and it was excellent — lightly effervescent, floral with a hint of bitterness and the sippability of a cocktail.
Betera is offering readers of the Daily a 15 percent discount on their first order: use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — you can try Betera here.
