Parking Relief Is Coming To Old Town Scottsdale With Nearly 200 New Spaces
The Brown Avenue garage expansion remains on track for spring 2027 public use after the council's vote.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Finding a parking spot in Old Town Scottsdale could get a little easier in the coming years.
The Scottsdale City Council has approved the final construction contract for the expansion of the Brown Avenue Parking Structure, clearing the way for a project that will add 185 public parking spaces to one of the city's busiest destinations.
The voter-approved expansion will add two new levels to the existing garage at Brown Avenue and 1st Street. City officials say the additional parking is expected to open to the public in spring 2027.

Council's latest approval authorizes up to $12.46 million for the remaining construction work, which will be completed by Chasse Building Team. Combined with previously approved funding, the project's total guaranteed maximum cost is now $16.28 million.
Construction is already underway.

Crews began the first phase of work on June 29, focusing on strengthening the existing garage so it can support two additional parking levels. During construction, both the surface-level and underground portions of the garage are closed to the public.
"Old Town is one of Scottsdale's most visited destinations, and convenient public parking is essential to supporting residents, businesses and visitors," City Manager Greg Caton said. "This project delivers on the community's investment in Old Town by adding parking capacity while preserving the character and walkability that make this area so special."
City officials say the expanded garage was designed with community input and will blend into Old Town's historic feel. Plans include Western-inspired storefront facades, an upper level set back from Brown Avenue to reduce its visual impact, shaded sidewalks, pedestrian-friendly improvements and new public art along Second Street.
Drivers shouldn't expect major traffic headaches during the current phase of construction. Most work will remain inside the existing garage footprint, and nearby businesses will stay open.
However, temporary fencing will close sidewalks immediately next to the garage, and a limited number of on-street parking spaces along 1st Street will be unavailable while construction continues.
The parking expansion is funded through Scottsdale's voter-approved 2019 bond program. Once the new spaces open in spring 2027, crews will finish architectural details and landscaping through the summer.
