Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. Pickle and Social will open in 2024 at The Sydney on Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community land near the Loop 101 and 90th Street. Guests can expect eight indoor and four outdoor pickleball courts, a full-service restaurant, a rooftop bar, a Fairway Fieldhouse with a private bar, four Full Swing simulators, "an ACL Cornhole Yard, yard games, an outdoor putting green, and a 30-foot outdoor live music stage." The Sydney expects multiple tenants, including Goodsurf, The Rustic and Reverb by Hard Rock. (NewsBreak)
  2. The Arizona Fish and Game Department killed four coyotes near the locations of the recent toddler attacks in north Scottsdale. After several days of searching near Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and 100th Street, wildlife officials successfully trapped and euthanized the suspects. These coyotes tested negative for rabies, and further DNA testing is being conducted to determine if the coyote involved in the child attacks was among the dead. Dog food was found in one of the coyotes' stomachs, and wildlife officials found eggs and muffins left out as coyote food. Arizona Fish and Game is urging residents not to feed coyotes, as this causes them to lose their fear of people and can lead to attacks. Wildlife officials are continuing to monitor for additional reports of aggressive coyote behavior. In the meantime, if you come in contact with a coyote, make eye contact and make loud noises; do not turn away and run! (Arizona's Family)
  3. Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Regional Vice President and General Manager Jack Miller was named 2022 General Manager of the Year by Strategic Hotels and Resorts! He was contending against leaders representing such prestigious brands as JW Marriott, Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons and Regent. Miller was recognized for "more than a decade of consistently exceptional performance at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, with key metrics for top line revenues, profit, guest and colleague satisfaction consistently exceeded." He was also awarded the Drinkwater Leadership Award by Scottsdale Leadership for exemplifying excellence in the areas of "consistent community service and involvement, leadership and humanitarian values." Way to go, Jack! (AZ Big Media)
  4. Do you know the history of the little building at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, where children take pictures with Santa each year? The building was "Southern Pacific Railroad's Maricopa depot from the early 1930s through 1961." Then, it became a playhouse in the backyard of a Phoenix home. In the early 2000s, the building made its final move to the Railroad Park, where it was given a restoration. (InMaricopa.com)

  • Kudos to the Scottsdale Police Department from a resident who shared this story:"We would like you to know what a nice visit we had several weeks ago with Sgt. Pitt and his K9 officer. We were walking in the Disc Golf Park when we met them. Sgt Pitt was kind enough to talk to us about his canine partner which being dog lovers, we thoroughly enjoyed. We were so impressed with Sgt. Pitt's love and respect for his K9 and also his outstanding ability to relate to the public. He left us a delightful memory and a great impression of Scottsdale's fine police force. ~C.J. & G.D."
