Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- HonorHealth CEO Todd LaPorte, who serves on the board and executive committee of Experience Scottsdale, shared his insights about the impact of large events on Scottsdale's economy: Events like ESPN's Super Bowl tailgate party, MLB Spring Training, WM Phoenix Open, Barrett-Jackson and the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show give visitors the opportunity to experience all that Scottsdale has to offer, and may inspire them to return for future vacations or relocate here for job opportunities, college or retirement. And business leaders may consider Scottsdale for future regional or corporate headquarters. As attracting skilled workers to industries like healthcare, finance, high tech and insurance becomes more challenging, these large events present a great opportunity to "bring the best and brightest to this area." Tourism, too, is "essential to our city's vitality." (Daily Independent/paywall)
- Have you recently taken a stroll at Chaparral Park, only to find yourself overwhelmed by the smell of dead fish? This unpleasant experience is due to a "large population fish kill," which happens this time of year. Contributing factors can include "temperature, cloud cover, algae blooms, runoff," and fish injuries during transportation or after catch-and-release fishing. The lake is restocked every two weeks from late September through April, and dead fish can continue to appear after these restocking events. The city does clean out the dead fish on occasion. (Fox 10 News Phoenix)
- Scottsdale made the list of "fastest growing millionaire hotspots," landing at #5. Henley & Partners estimates that "approximately 13,900 millionaires now call Scottsdale home; about 60 are considered 'centi-millionaires,' with a net wealth over $100 million, while 5 are billionaires." Why Scottsdale? The sunny weather, quality of life and low taxes on income from capital gains are all cited as potential factors. (Arizona's Family)
- Mediterranean barbecue and whiskey fans are in luck! Weft & Warp Art Bar + Kitchen at Andaz Scottsdale Resort is partnering with WhistlePig Rye for a Mezze + Rye Cookout on April 22 at 4:oo p.m. Only 50 guests will be able to attend the event, for $55 per person, at 6114 N Scottsdale Road.
