Scottsdale Begins Replacing Rotary Park's Aging Playground

The city says voter-approved sales tax funding will help modernize one of Scottsdale's oldest playgrounds.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — One of Scottsdale's oldest playgrounds is getting a full replacement starting this week, with the city set to begin construction at Rotary Park today.

The project will tear out the aging play equipment and replace it with a shaded, modern play space designed to be more inclusive and accessible, the city said.

Work is expected to wrap up in mid-August, though the city noted timelines can shift.

Rotary Park is an 8-acre park near central Scottsdale that includes two drop-in ramadas, picnic areas and a restroom alongside the playground.

The project is funded through Proposition 490, the 0.15% Parks and Preserve Sales Tax voters approved in 2024. The tax took effect last July and is dedicated to the maintenance, protection and improvement of Scottsdale parks and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

City Manager Greg Caton said the investments are meant to give residents visible improvements while planning responsibly for the future.

The city tied the announcement to National Park and Recreation Month, framing the Rotary Park overhaul as part of a broader commitment to recreation improvements across Scottsdale.

The new playground is expected to open to the public in mid-August.
