Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:

  1. A new drama series,"Scottsdale" is coming soon! The online series, set to debut on WATCHVIM later this month, is "centered around a wealthy desert family's business that gets caught in a scandal and drug war." The five-episode series was written by Anthony Bawn, a former resident of north Scottsdale. Though most filming was done at Arizona Studios in Phoenix, the series does feature "scenes shot on location around north Scottsdale and Chandler." (Scottsdale Progress)
  2. John McKernan, a 32-year-old Scottsdale resident, was sentenced to 6.5 years in federal prison for selling fentanyl on the dark web, also referred to as the darknet. Using the alias KingofKeys, McKernan sold over 450 pills marketed as oxycodone to investigators in exchange for Bitcoin. Once tested, all of the pills were found to contain fentanyl. The Scottsdale Police Department assisted the Phoenix Division of the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Phoenix FBI with the investigation. (KTAR.com)
  3. Scottsdale Community College's Justice Studies and Forensic Science Program partnered with the Scottsdale Police Department to create a mock homicide scene so that students could learn how to process a crime scene. This training offers a solution to staffing challenges within the police department by creating civilian job opportunities. Graduates of the program will receive their associate degree and be qualified to apply to the police department positions immediately. (Arizona's Family)
  4. With gas prices starting to rise again, some Arizona gas stations are reportedly running out of regular fuel and offering only premium gas. The Circle K at Shea Boulevard and Frank Lloyd Wright is one of them. Contributing factors include "Arizona's growing population, delayed gas deliveries due to a trucker shortage and the transition to summer gasoline." (Arizona's Family)
  5. Upscale Singers, Scottsdale's prestigious adult choir, is set to perform "The Upscale Zone" concerts! The first kicks off today, and will be offered again tomorrow, at the Fellowship Center at Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, 34605 N. Tom Darlington Drive. The third concert, which is a dinner theatre option, will take place April 29 at St. Patrick Catholic Community's Fenlon Hospitality Center, 10815 N 84th St. Purchase tickets, which tend to sell out quickly, online at Upscale Singers.
