Now, your local weather: We will have plenty of sunshine today, with a high of 90 and low of 66.

Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. A security guard at Scottsdale Quarter was stabbed multiple times in his hip after restraining a man with a knife just after midnight on Monday. The security guard was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspect was booked into jail on charges of "aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, multiple drug charges, and disorderly conduct." The suspect, who is 38-year-old Marco Antonio Aguilera, also has "four misdemeanor warrants outside of Scottsdale." The details of what led to the fight and stabbing are still under investigation. (FOX 10 Phoenix)
  2. The Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen, which was at the center of the Memorial Day Commemoration this past Monday, has an inspiring story of its own. Jim Geiser, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and graduate of both Scottsdale High School and ASU, passionately led the 10-year-long, $300,000 fundraising effort to create the memorial to honor Scottsdale residents who died in service to our country. Though Geiser passed away a few months before the unveiling of the monument, there is a bench honoring him near the memorial. (Scottsdale Progress)
  3. Former Scottsdale mayor William "Bill" Schrader died at the age of 93 on May 17. Schrader served as a city council member from 1958 to 1962, at which point he became "the first elected mayor of Scottsdale." He held this position until 1964, but he continued to serve our city in multiple elected and volunteer roles. (East Valley Tribune)
