Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- Scottsdale is a finalist for two different applications in the 2023 International Data Corporation Smart Cities Awards. Electronic solutions that attract visitors, attract new businesses, and improve the lives of residents are considered for this designation. Scottsdale's two finalists are the Smart Water Conversation Application, which offers an automated solution for improved water conservation, and the Scottsdale GIS App for the World's Premier Golf Event, which shows near-real-time statuses and locations of first responders during high-volume activities like the WM Phoenix Open. Residents can vote for these two finalists through March 31 via SurveyMoney. (City of Scottsdale)
- A pedestrian was hit by a car at Shea and Scottsdale Roads and died. While it's unknown if the 70-year-old Minnesota native was in the crosswalk when hit, the driver of the car stayed at the scene and is not believed to have been speeding or impaired. Roads were closed for several hours during the investigation, but were reopened. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
- CND Life Sciences leased space for a new global headquarters at 9165 E. Del Camino Drive in the Pima Center. The company specializes in "medical diagnostics for neurodegenerative diseases," and an increased demand for this research and testing led to the company's expansion. (The Business Journals)
- McKesson Corp. will close its Scottsdale office. The company will cut 815 jobs across the country, which includes positions in the Valley. (The Business Journals)

- Canceled event alert! "Scottsdale's April 1 Ride to Read event has been cancelled." Alternatively, the city hopes guests will consider attending "this year's Cycle the Arts event on Sunday, April 16." (City of Scottsdale)
- The Scottsdale Fire Department is preparing to battle wildfires! "Arizona firefighters kick off this year's wildfire training at Lake Pleasant. CAWRT training consists of shelter deployment training and other qualifications firefighters need to be certified for the frontline of wildfire defense... Firefighters from departments in Surprise, Peoria, Scottsdale, and more are attending the all-day training sessions in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management and the Tonto National Forest."
