Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. One person is dead following a two-car crash Sunday evening on Loop 101 northbound near Mountain View Road. A pickup truck driver "rear-ended an SUV causing both vehicles to veer to the right side of the roadway." The SUV became stuck in the guardrail, and the pickup truck rolled into a canal. The pickup driver died at the scene, and the individuals in the SUV had non-life-threatening injuries. (Arizona's Family)
  2. With temperatures on the rise, the Scottsdale Fire Department provided some insight into how Valley firefighters stay cool and avoid heat exhaustion while battling fires. When temperatures are more than 105 degrees, a mobile rehab center is deployed to offer resources and a place for firefighters to cool down. The rehab center has frozen towels, vests that can be filled with frozen sleeves, multiple ice packs, and plenty of water. An individual from the rehab center monitors the firefighters and makes sure that they rotate to the center after about 25 minutes of being active on the scene. As SFD Captain Dave Folio stated, this system is necessary because "firefighters can be so focused on trying to help others that they can easily forget to take care of themselves." (Arizona's Family)
  3. Daddy's Chicken Shack has been officially open for about a month near Shea Boulevard at 11107 Scottsdale Road. Guests can enjoy house-made sauces and pickles, as well as crispy and never-frozen chicken patties. The bestseller thus far has been the "Nashville Daddy," which has "five levels of spice ranging from country, which has no spice, to extra hot, which has a ghost pepper sauce." Guests can also try a "Lil' Daddy Flight" of three different chicken tender sliders, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, and "funnel cake style" waffles. Check out the menu here.
