Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- Scottsdale students raised $500 for the earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey by enticing their classmates to wear regular clothes for one day, instead of their school uniforms, for the price of a $2 donation. Emma Treat and Alexa Sypel, both students at the International School of Arizona, also participated in a student council drive to gather nearly $1,500 in toiletries for a local domestic violence shelter. The students continue to participate in efforts to serve others, including packing boxes at St. Mary's Food Bank and gathering toys for the Phoenix Children's Hospital. - Two north Scottsdale toddlers were attacked by a coyote this week. One child was bitten on the playground at Aztec Park, and another child was bitten while walking behind his mother up his driveway. Both toddlers are expected to be fine, and officials suspect the same coyote may have attacked them. (Arizona's Family)
- Scottsdale police are investigating the death of a bicyclist in a crash near 95th Street and Dynamite Boulevard yesterday morning. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was cooperative and stayed at the scene of the accident. Drivers are being asked to stay off Dynamite from both directions until further notice. (ABC15 Arizona, Arizona's Family)
- In a 4-3 vote, City Council approved replacing car lanes with bike lanes and other pedestrian features along 68th Street between Thomas and Osborn Roads. Opponents expressed concerns about increased traffic in south Scottsdale with the addition of multiple new apartment complexes, as well as the impact on surrounding local businesses. City officials commented that typically traffic isn't high in this area, and indicated that creating community and livable streets is being prioritized over traffic throughput. (Arizona's Family)
- An aircraft landed on Estancia Club golf course on Thursday! The plane landed on the 15th hole, and the pilot was not hurt. Efforts were in progress to remove the aircraft from the golf course. (ABC15 Arizona)
