Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- Calling all residents with a passion to serve! Mayor David D. Ortega designated April 16-22 as Volunteer Appreciation Week in Scottsdale for all to celebrate the city's treasured volunteers. Over the last fiscal year, "more than 3,234 volunteers contributed 88,367 hours of service citywide, which is valued at $2,474,276 hours or just over 42 full-time positions." The city offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities on the City of Scottsdale website. Volunteers can Adopt-A-Family, Adopt-A-Road, or Adopt-A-Senior! Residents can share their excitement and knowledge as an Ambassador of Old Town. Whether you want to assist children with Back to School needs, help seniors Beat the Heat, give safety presentations to the community, help out at the food bank, or assist neighbors in need of property maintenance, an opportunity is here for you! (City of Scottsdale)
- Scottsdale dentist Dr. Kent Tuttle is driving "The Smile Movement" with his Tuttle Shuttle! It's a specially designed van serving as a "mobile dental office [that] will drive to a selected patient's location — at home or at work — and provide a free consultation and dental care, either in the shuttle or at the office." Almost weekly, a smile makeover recipient is selected by a committee of doctors from the list of applicants submitted to smilemoveorg via Instagram. A three-part documentary series, "Beyond the Teeth," chronicles this movement and recently premiered at Harkins Theater, 7000 E Mayo Boulevard. Interested in donating to this cause? You can do so on the Tuttle Shuttle website. (Arizona's Family)
- Four new restaurants are coming soon to the Scottsdale area! Hai Noon is set to open later this month at the Sonder The Mariposa motel, 7017 E McDowell Road. Chefs from Welcome Diner and Nobuo at Teeter House teamed up for this concept that "marries Japanese cuisine with the American Southwest." Next up is Course, which is set to open in early May at 7366 E Shea Boulevard. Guests can choose from a 10-course or five-course prix fixe dinner, or enjoy "a fun multicourse brunch called 'Morning Would' paired with '80s and '90s music." Poppy's Office, set to open this summer at 34522 N Scottsdale Road, Suite 160, will offer a menu focused on craft cocktails, with most food options coming from the adjacent Liberty Station restaurant. Last but not least, Calle Rosa will open sometime this year at 7343 E Camelback Road, offering high-end meals in a three-story restaurant complete with a third floor bar and lounge. (NewsBreak)

Drinkwater. "Mr. Scottsdale," as he was known, served Scottsdale citizens for 24 years, eight as city councilman and 16 as mayor... " (City of Scottsdale - Government via Facebook)
