  1. A woman was charged with reckless driving and endangerment and extreme DUI after allegedly crashing into four Scottsdale police vehicles. Officers were making an arrest near Indian School Road and 82nd Place when Caylynn T. Simpson's Toyota Tacoma hit the patrol cars. An arrestee in one of the patrol cars and one police officer standing near him received minor injuries, all four police vehicles were damaged, and two of those patrol cars were towed from the site of the incident.   2. Two Scottsdale Unified School District students are finalists for Flinn Foundation Scholarships. The winners of the scholarships will have the option to attend one of Arizona's state universities free of tuition. Twenty students will be selected from the 39 finalists, with winners to be announced in April. Finalist Baraa Abdelghne of Saguaro High School aspires to be a doctor in Syria, and finalist Zack Okun of Desert Mountain High School dreams of working with robotics. (East Valley Tribune)
  3. Warrior Songs will host a healing creative arts retreat in Scottsdale for female veterans who are survivors of sexual trauma, eight local female veterans and eight female veterans from across the country. Their artwork from the retreat will be displayed at Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley on March 25 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Though the event is free and all are invited, guests are asked to be at least age 13 due to the topics of discussion. Two new spring exhibitions are being offered at Gallery Andrea: "Spring Wildflowers of Arizona by international artist Andrea de Kerpely-Zak, and Spring Landscapes of Arizona by Rusty Walker and Collin Fry." Artist Kerpely-Zak is Hungarian-born and known internationally "for painting the wildflowers of Arizona such as African Daisies and Mexican Gold Poppies." Artists Walker and Fry both created art during their service in the United States Air Force and continued their work throughout their civilian lives. (Scottsdale Independent/paywall)
  • Calling all symphony fans! "The Scottsdale Philharmonic has announced the musical program for its next concert on May 7, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts, 7380 East Second St." The concert "will feature a special tribute to Louis Armstrong," as well as Russian musician "Anton Arensky's 'Symphony No. 1 in B minor.'"
