Scottsdale examines accessibility to city programs and services

Scottsdale is seeking public input through a short online survey to evaluate access to city programs, services and buildings for those with disabilities. The survey examines streets, parks, parking, bus stops, city facilities and programs that may pose challenges to people with accessibility issues.

The survey will remain open through Sept. 30. Public feedback will help the city develop an ADA Transition Plan to guide the planning and implementation of future programs and facility modifications. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in several areas, including employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to local government programs and services.

“Scottsdale provides a plethora of public services, programs and activities, and we do so remaining mindful of the diverse community we serve,” said Sharon Cini, Scottsdale’s diversity and inclusion program manager. “It’s an important responsibility. In order to keep the city’s ADA plan current and progressive, public input is invaluable.”

Scottsdale anticipates having the ADA Transition Plan's final draft finished in December, with City Council approval to follow.
