Tucson's Sonoran Dog Is 'Grossest Food' In State, Says Website
It was just a few weeks ago that the famed hot dog gained national acclaim as Tucson's El Guero Canelo was honored. Now, a site throws shade

TUCSON, AZ – Maybe it's a love it or hate situation. Tucson clearly loves their Sonoran dogs. Apparently, it's not a universal feeling.
While the twist on the hot dog has a huge following here – and people travel from across the country to get a taste – a new story lists it as "the grossest food" in Arizona.
"I thought Illinois had the market cornered on over-topped hot dogs, but I was shockingly and horrifyingly incorrect -- the Sonoran dog is, if anything, somehow more monstrous than the Chicago dog," according to the critic of topixoffbeat.com.

"We should put Arizonans and Chicagoans in a room and let them fight this one out."
For those who don't know Sonoran dogs, they are often wrappped in bacon and topped with pinto beans, tomatoes, ketchup, mayo, and more.

A few weeks ago, Tucson's famed purveyors of the dogs, El Guero Canelo, was one of five restaurants around the country honored as one of "America's Classics" by the James Beard Foundation.
The foundation, which also hands out the prestigious James Beard Awards – considered the Oscars of food – created the America's Classics Award in 1998 to honor restaurants "that have timeless appeal and are cherished for quality food that reflects the character of their community."
The website also includes hamburger casserole in Kansas, fried butter in Iowa, and Mississippi's koolickle, which is a pickle soaked in Kool-Aid.
