1. Yuma Is Turning Sunshine Into Public Art (signalsaz.com) — Yuma residents and businesses can now sponsor large sun sculptures through the city's new Adopt a Sun public art program, with installations placed around town for a year at a time. Artists 18 and older are invited to submit designs tied to Yuma's identity, with the first application deadline on December 11, 2026. The program officially debuts at Art in the Park on January 9–10, 2027.
   

2. Three suspects in drive-by case face first-degree murder charges (yumasun.com) — Three 18-year-olds have been returned to Yuma and indicted on first-degree murder and multiple felony charges tied to an April 26 drive-by shooting that killed 18-year-old Valentin Morales on South 15th Avenue. Yuma police, with help from Valley agencies, arrested the suspects in Avondale before transferring them back to face charges. Court documents outline additional aggravated assault and drive-by shooting counts connected to the case.
   

3. A Spanish Revival Landmark Saved for Future Generations (savingplaces.org) — Downtown Yuma's long-vacant Hotel del Sol has been saved from full demolition and is being transformed into a multimodal transit center while keeping its iconic Spanish Revival exterior. After structural problems surfaced, federal, state, and local partners worked through the Section 106 process to preserve the facade and key interior elements. The project aims to keep this Main Street landmark both recognizable and useful for future generations.
   

4. Tax relief for disabled Veterans (kyma.com) — Disabled veterans and their surviving spouses in Yuma will soon qualify for significantly expanded Arizona property tax relief, thanks to a proposal first drafted by a local veteran and championed by state lawmakers. Yuma leaders and veterans say the new law, tied directly to VA disability ratings, finally brings long-awaited financial help, with filing for exemptions beginning in early 2027.
