Coronavirus Shuts Down NorCal Ski Resorts
The ski season in California came to an effective end this weekend, as ski resorts closed down due to the coronavirus outbreak.
CALIFORNIA — Adding to the growing number of institutions closing due to the COVID-19 outbreak, a number of California ski resorts are shutting down to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
That list includes the three largest ski resorts in Northern California — Kirkwood, Heavenly and Northstar, which will close starting Sunday, owner Vail Resorts announced Saturday.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows resort near Lake Tahoe also said it will close Sunday.

Meanwhile, the High Sierra ski resort at Mammoth Mountain, Big Bear Mountain Resort and June Mountain Ski Area are also closing indefinitely starting Sunday, parent company Alterra Mountain Company announced. (First reported by the Orange County Register).
"After careful thought and deliberation of our duty in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak, and in what I believe is in the best interest of our guests, employees and local communities, Alterra Mountain Company will suspend operations at our 15 North American ski resorts," CEO Rusty Gregory said in a statement.

The resorts will help guests cancel their reservations and get refunds, Gregory said.
