Newsom's Child Quarantines After Potential Exposure To COVID-19

CALIFORNIA — One of Gov. Gavin Newsom's children may have been exposed to coronavirus while attending private school. Newsom's child began a 14-day quarantine from the first day of exposure after the a classmate tested positive, communications director Nathan Click told the Associated Press in an email.

The rest of Newsom's family were reportedly not exposed and the governor tested negative this week using a rapid test. He says he will be tested again with a regular nasal swab test this weekend, Click said.

Newsom announced last month that his four children had returned to an in person classroom in a Sacramento private school, a move that some scrutinized him for as the majority of California's public school students have been forced to pivot to online learning.

The Golden State governor also came under fire this month for attending a birthday dinner at elite Napa Valley restaurant French Laundry with more than three households, disreguarding the state's COVID-19 safety guidelines.

The dinner was attended by political figures and top medical brass, according to multiple reports.
