Agoura Softball Shows True Grit

The Agoura Chargers Girls Varsity softball team suffers a tough loss to the first place Simi Valley Pioneers.

SOFTBALL

  • The Agoura Chargers Varsity softball team proudly represented its school Tuesday in a hard-fought battle against the undefeated Simi Valley Pioneers. The Chargers grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third inning off a triple by Natalie Fersht. They added to the lead when Stephanie Lord followed with a homerun to deep right field. In the final inning, with two outs, Agoura faltered and Simi Valley took advantage. The final score in a close and exciting game resulted in a 6-5 loss. The Agoura Chargers were lead with strong performances by Natalie Fersht, who went 1-4 with a triple and two RBI's ,and Stephanie Lord, who went 1-3 with a homerun and pitched the entire game. 
  • Kelcie Brodsky, McKenna Sikich and Sydney Werdesheim combined for three hits which helped to rally the team in the middle of the game. It couldn't have been more fitting that on senior day, one senior stood out and made a couple of huge plays late in the game. Shannon Cullen displayed some great fielding in the clutch and went 1-2 in the closing part of the game. There are only two games remaining in the regular season and Agoura needs one, possibly two, wins to make the playoffs. The Chargers are currently 13-12 overall and 7-5 in league play.  Agoura travels to Royal on Thursday to battle the Highlanders at 3:30 p.m.

GIRLS LACROSSE

  • The Agoura Girls Varsity lacrosse team finished its last league game Friday, dominating the Newbury Park Panthers 14-3. Strong performances by Talia Fiance, who posted three goals and an assist, and Jackie Adelsberg, who scored two times and assisted three times, helped the Agoura Chargers cruise to an easy victory. Melissa Sheret and Beth Maiman also combined for three goals and three assists. With the win, Agoura is ranked second in the Marmonte League heading into the playoffs. The Chargers first test will come when it faces a tough Mira Costa squad on Wednesday. Agoura's overall record is now 13-5 and 7-1 in league. This is quite an accomplishment, as it is the team's first year as a sport at Agoura.

BOYS LACROSSE

  • The Agoura Boys lacrosse team traveled Friday to Newbury Park to battle the Panthers. The Agoura Chargers didn't waste any time posting an easy win, 11-3. Nick Lemonnier and Marcus Friedlander combined for six goals and three assists, leading the way for the Chargers. John Workman also contributed posting two goals and one assist.  The Agoura Chargers finish its season with an overall record of 13-3 and league record of 12-2. Agoura will be entering the playoffs against a yet to be determined opponent.

BOYS GOLF

  • The Agoura Chargers Boys golf team entered tournament play Tuesday at Simi Hills golf course. Agoura will continue tournament play on Thursday at Sunset Hills Country Club at 12 p.m.

  • The Agoura Varsity tennis team battled a tough Simi Valley squad on Tuesday. Agoura edged out the Simi Valley Pioneers in singles play, 5-4. Jordan Riessen and Dennis Neymit combined for four wins against Simi Valley's strongest players. The Chargers struggled in its doubles matches, losing 6-3. Justin Noddle and Jacob Braustein paired up for a win, while Jake Kelman and Davis Gantz defeated their opposition in both sets. Agoura ended match play on the losing end, 10-8. They finish their season with an overall record of 6-11 and league record of 4-10. With 11 seniors returning and a dedicated coach, Agoura optimistically looks forward to next year.
