After two very close losses, the Agoura Chargers are battling to finish the season on a positive note.
BASEBALL
- The Agoura Chargers Varsity baseball team hosted the Panthers of Newbury Park Friday in Marmonte league play. Agoura quickly posted two runs, grabbing an early lead. The Panthers came back scoring three in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Down 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Chargers pulled within one run after Brody Fehmel scored on a wild pitch, and Sam Gerald drove in Mark Seyler with a double. In the top of the seventh inning, Newbury Park pulled away and sealed the victory with an RBI (Runs Batted In) single. The final score was 6-4 in favor of the Panthers. Agoura now slides to 10-14 overall and 4-8 in league play.
- The Varsity baseball team traveled to Simi Valley to battle the Royal Highlanders on Monday. Due to errors and walks, Royal was able to capitalize and post four of its five runs early in the game. The lead was too much for Agoura to overcome and they ended up falling short 5-4. Agoura was lead by Brody Fehmel who went a perfect 2-2 with an RBI and a walk. Mark Seyler and Jack Quina also contributed by combining for four hits and three RBI's. The Chargers are now 10-15 overall and 4-9 in Marmonte league play. Agoura travels to Westlake to challenge the Warriors on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
GIRLS LACROSSE
- The Agoura Varsity lacrosse team played their semifinals game against a tough Cate Rams squad in Carpinteria on Friday. Cate entered the playoffs as the second seed, while Agoura was ranked sixth. After upsetting the third place Mira Costa Mustangs, the Agoura Chargers were looking to continue its winning streak. The Chargers fought hard, but Cate turned out to be too experienced and captured the victory 17-13. Agoura was lead by Talia Fiance who had five goals and fielded five ground balls. Other strong performances came from Hengameh Kamali and Emilie East who combined for five goals and eight ground balls to help keep Agoura close throughout. - The Agoura Chargers Boys and Girls swim team competed in the Marmonte League finals at Rancho Simi Community Pool in Simi Valley on Thursday. Standout relay qualifiers, that automatically moved on to the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) preliminaries, were the girls and boys 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. Shannyn Hultin also auto-qualified for the 200 IM (individual medley) and 100 breaststroke. Auto-qualifiers and any other later "consideration" entries will move onto the CIF preliminaries on Wednesday, May 11, at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. Agoura has a tough road ahead of them due to the recent move to Division 1 competition. Qualifying times become harder to meet due to the numerous "powerhouse" schools among the division.
