Girls Lacrosse Forces Upset

The Agoura Chargers Varsity lacrosse team stuns the third place Mira Costa Mustangs with a playoff victory.

GIRLS LACROSSE

  • The Agoura Girls Varsity lacrosse team entered the playoffs Wednesday, matched up against a very talented Mira Costa Mustang squad. The Mustangs were ranked third in the playoffs but that didn't stop the sixth ranked Chargers from pulling off an upset with ten seconds remaining in the game. Agoura Charger, Talia Fiance, sprinted the field and scored with time about to expire. Strong defensive performances by co-captains Beth Maiman and Lauren Diaz helped contain the opposition and capture victory. Goalie Jackie Hollander posted 13 big saves and teammate Jackie Adelsberg scored three goals for Agoura. The Chargers move on to the semifinals to face the second ranked Cate Rams on Friday at 6 p.m. 

BOYS LACROSSE

  • The Agoura Boys Varsity lacrosse team entered the playoffs Tuesday against the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines. In an intense, hard-fought battle, Agoura was able to overcome the Wolverines attack and post an 11-10 victory. Trevor Sampson and Gerrard Poutier combined for seven goals and an assist. John Workman also posted two goals to help Agoura finish on top. Agoura moves on to the next round of playoffs against a yet to be determined opponent.

BOYS BASEBALL

  • Agoura Varsity baseball traveled to Thousand Oaks on Wednesday to challenge the Lancers in a Marmonte league game.  In a must win situation, the Agoura Chargers beat the Lancers in extra innings. Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Agoura sophmore Preston Rosemont hit a double into deep left field, driving in the winning run. Kyle London and Justin Cana combined for two hits and four runs scored. Mark Seyler also contributed with a hit and two RBI's. The Agoura Chargers host the Newbury Park Panthers on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Chargers current overall record is 10-13  and 4-7 in league play.

SOFTBALL

  • The Agoura Chargers Varsity softball team was matched up against the Highlanders of Royal on Thursday. The game was very important for both teams due to playoff implications.  After a tough battle between the two squads, Royal prevailed 7-6. The Chargers were lead by Kelcie Brodsky, who went 2 for 4 with a home run, scored  a run and added four RBI's. Stephanie Lord contributed with a double, two RBI's and one run scored. Also, Jamie DePippo went a perfect 4-4 with two runs scored. Even though Agoura fell short, they can hold their heads high on the hard work and effort put forth. The Chargers travel to Moorpark for its last league game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Agoura's overall record is 13-13 and 7-6 in league play.
