Hultin Has Her Eye on the Prize
Agoura senior Shannyn Hultin, who performed well in the CIF Division 1 preliminary swimming races, will participate in the 2012 Olympic Trials.
SWIMMING
- At the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) preliminary races on Wednesday, Shannyn Hultin made her presence felt when she posted the fastest time in the Girls 200 yard IM (Individual Medley). Her time of 2:01.86 was almost two seconds faster than the second place qualifier. Shannyn has defined herself as a strong swimmer, able to compete in a fierce Division 1 conference. Shannyn also qualified for the Girls 100 yard breaststroke where she placed eighth with a time of 1:05.62. Hultin qualified for USA Swimming Nationals and Olympic Trials last year in the 400 IM, her best event. Even though high school swimming doesn't allow the longer races, Hultin intends on only improving her times. Shannyn signed with University of Arizona back in November, so she will swim for the Wildcats next year on a partial scholarship. Look for Shannyn Hultin at the 2012 Olympic Trials which will be held in Omaha, Nebraska in June 2012.
- The Agoura Charger relay team of Claralyse Palmer, Emily Smith, Megan Linder and Shannyn Hultin placed 17 out 32 teams in the Girls 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:39.78. Because only the top 16 teams move on to the finals on Friday, the Agoura team will be entering as a first alternate in case of a last minute cancellation.
- The Agoura Boys swim team also will be moving on to the CIF finals on Friday with the relay team of Sammy Wolfson, Vatche Kazanjian, Jonathon Lai and Adam Abdulhamid, who placed seventh in the Boys 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.34. The CIF finals will be held at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach on Friday at 6 p.m.
BASEBALL
- The Agoura Chargers Varsity baseball team travelled to Westlake on Wednesday to battle the Warriors in its last game of the season. From the beginning of the game, Agoura was overwhelmed with numerous hits from the Westlake squad. The Warriors never let up and finshed the game with a 15-2 victory. The Agoura Chargers were lead by Tyler Cohen who went 3-4 with one run scored. Rhet Montana and Preston Rosemont also contributed with a combined two hits and one RBI (run batted in). Westlake's Luke Dykstra went 3-4 with four RBI's, a double and a grand slam. Agoura finishes the season with an overall record of 10-16 and a Marmonte league record of 4-10.
