Profile of an All-Around Athlete

Agoura High School senior Kelcie Brodsky embodies that perfect combination of humility, academics and athleticism.

Great athletes are a "dime-a-dozen" and don't necessarily benefit from an athletic program, unless they are coachable, academically eligible and unselfish on and off the field.

Agoura High's Kelcie Brodsky, an incoming senior, embodies all of these qualities. She doesn't just play soccer and softball at the high school level, she excels at it. She also belongs to two club teams and is still able to maintain a 3.8 GPA (Grade Point Average) while taking honors and AP (Advanced Placement) classes.

Brodsky plays keeper in soccer and has been a force in that position since she entered the program her freshman year. There are numerous games where her miraculous saves and uncanny instinct have saved a lead or prevented a loss.

According to her coach, Tasha Capretta, she maintains a positive outlook and her competitiveness and kindness are infectious."She is a joy to coach because of her willingness to learn and competitive drive to want to improve....She makes the girls around her better with her optimism"

Brodsky said that her goal for this year is to help her high school soccer team come in first place in league and to go further into the playoffs than last year. "Personally, I would like to maintain or improve on my goals against percentage. For my club team I would like to help my team make it to the finals of Nationals," sge said.

In the spring, Brodsky transitions to softball where she plays shortstop and bats fourth in the lineup due to her power and slugging percentage. The combination of her defensive and hitting skills make her a very valuable commodity to any program. She also plays club during the off season in order to stay a step ahead of the competition.

Brodsky will have to make an important decision over the next few months–whether to play soccer or softball at the next level. If Brodsky wants to play at a Division 1 school, she will most likely have to choose between the two in order to prevent injury at such a competitive level of play.

"I still cannot choose between softball and soccer. I love them both. When I am playing either one I feel like I can't possibly let it go, because I enjoy playing each of them so much," said Brodsky. "I've been playing both of them since I was four years old. It doesn't seem possible to choose. I guess my dream is to find a school that will let me play both sports in college at a high level. It may not happen, but it is my dream."

Brodsky plans on staying close to home due to her strong ties with her family. Her ideal situation would be to play somewhere in California that also offers a good science program.

"I would like to attend a school that challenges me academically, as I am planning to attend dental school to eventually become an orthodontist" Brodsky said.

While attending Agoura, Brodsky has accumulated many accolades, including second team all-league for Varsity softball, junior year defensive MVP for Varsity softball, voted to first team all-league for Varsity softball, MVP all three years of soccer and scholastically is part of the National Honors Society.
