The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park’s summer day camp will kick off June 13 and will be filled with swimming, songs, field trips, arts and crafts and opportunities to make lasting friendships. The Miller Y summer camp is at Cypress Elementary School (4200 W. Kimber Dr., Newbury Park) and is for children in grades kindergarten through sixth grade.
Games, activities, crafts and field trips are specifically selected around weekly themes. Themes include science, wonder of nature week, space exploration, “wacky water,” the Olympics and inventing. .
“The Miller Family YMCA summer camp is specifically designed to meet the needs and interests of kids and their parents,” says Kara Kaplan, the Miller Y’s associate executive director. “Every age group is led by qualified and trained counselors. Major field trips and traveling camps are more common in our older groups, while our younger campers will begin to venture out, take smaller local trips and spend time learning about themselves and the friends around them. Personal growth, self-respect, character building, and the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are strongly emphasized in all of our day camp programs.”http://contribute.patch.com/compose#photo-widget
