Summer Edition: Parks & Rec's Sony Delight Continues Its Winning Streak With An Exciting Finish

Sony Delight knocks off the first place team with a lay-up at the buzzer.

With summer almost upon us, and high school sports shut down for the season, Sports Notebook will be featuring the games and competitions held at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center. These adult-played sports are all sponsored by the Agoura Hills Parks & Recreation Center. We call it our Summer Edition.

BASKETBALL

Thursday "C" League

  • The Sharpshooters entered Thursday night's game looking for a much need win against the first place Hammers. The Hammers pulled out to a quick 15 point lead, led by Ron Lee and Jason Adams, who combined for 35 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists. The Hammers continued to control the tempo until the Sharpshooters stormed back into the game with excellent play by John Paul Abraham, who posted 36 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists. His performance brought the Sharpshooters within one point with a minute to go, but the Hammers were able to close the game with an 81-77 victory. The Hammers remain a perfect 6-0 while the Sharpshooters slide to 4-2.
  • A-Town began Thursday evening's game looking to capture its first win against a tough Hustle Hard squad. The game remained close throughout with multiple lead changes. In the end, Hustle Hard proved to be too much, securing a 72-66 victory. Tim Willey (Hustle Hard) and Eric Abbe (Hustle Hard) combined for 26 points, 20 rebounds and six assists. In a losing effort, Mike Robbins posted 34 points, nine rebounds and five assists. A-Town remains win-less while Hustle Hard moves up the rankings with a 2-4 record.

Thurday "D" League

  • Sony Delight battled the first place Dudes in a back and forth battle. What seems to be the strategy for Sony Delight worked, once again, and gave them the win. By staying close throughout the entire game, Sony Delight was able to creep up on it's opponent and steal a buzzer beater victory. Coming out of a timeout with three seconds left, Joe Devita (Sony Delight) sunk a reverse layup and in turn ended the game. Devita posted 20 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in route to an exciting finish. Sony Delight goes from seventh to tied for first with the Dudes in a matter of three weeks. Both teams have a 4-2 record and look to win next week.
  • Rock Sugar was matched up against a tough Smooth squad, looking to end its losing streak. Smooth controlled the pace of the game and built an 11 point lead at half. A flustered Rock Sugar team fought its way back into the game, pulling within five points with two minutes left. Time became a factor and Smooth was able to hit clutch-free throws which helped clinch the 46-36 victory. Rock Sugar slides to 3-3 while Smooth moves to 2-4.
  • Old Time Magic proved to be too much for the Blazers Thursday evening in its 65-47 victory. Old Time Magic pulled away quickly and never stopped pouring on the intensity. Todd Wolfson (Old Time Magic) led his team with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four assists and shares first place with a record of 4-2. The Blazers remain in last, still looking for its first win.
  • Our Sixth Man battled Xavier late Thursday night. From tip-off, Our Sixth Man looked to be the better team by controlling the tempo and hitting open shots. Xavier could never get back into the game, eventually losing 54-40. James White (Our Sixth Man) led his team with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Our Sixth Man moves to 4-2 while Xavier slides to 3-3.
