Summer Edition: Parks & Rec's Warriors Prove To Be Too Much For The Opposition

'The Warriors' overwhelm 'Rimshot' with an impressive victory, keeping themselves undefeated in regular season play.

With summer almost upon us, and high school sports shut down for the season, Sports Notebook will be featuring the games and competitions held at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center. These adult-played sports are all sponsored by the Agoura Hills Parks & Recreation Center. We call it our Summer Edition.

  • "Old School" was scheduled to play the "Kestrels" on Sunday in a regular season game. Unfortunately, due to an insufficient amount of players, "Old School" had to forfeit and take a loss towards its record. The "Kestrels" capture its first win with a current record of 1-2, while "Old School" drops in the rankings with a current record of 1-2 and looks to improve on attendance next week.
  • "CB" entered Sunday's match-up focused on remaining undefeated while the "McFlys" were searching for its first win in regular season play. The game was extremely close throughout the first half with Jay Saul (CB) controlling the tempo of the game. "CB" began to pull away in the second half with stellar performances by Mike Pillar (CB) and Gordon Scott (CB), who combined for 27 points and 14 rebounds in leading their team to a 53-40 victory. Paul Siamehs (McFlys) led his team with 12 points and 12 rebounds, but his performance proved to be not enough in a losing effort on Sunday. The "McFlys" continue to search for its first win with a record of 0-3, while "CB" stays undefeated with a 3-0 record.
  •  The "Sharpshooters" battled the "iBallers" in a regular season match on Sunday evening. Both teams entered the game missing key players from its squad. The game was fairly close for most of the first half until Tyson Dexter (iBallers) and Zack Hite (iBallers) took over the game with their stellar play. They combined for 27 points, 8 assists and 13 rebounds enroute to an easy win in the second half. Chris Malden's (Sharpshooters) outstanding performance, 15 points and 12 rebounds, proved not to be enough in his team's 61-46 loss. The "Sharpshooters" slide to 1-2, while the "iBallers" remain undefeated with a record of 3-0 and a share of first place.

Sunday "D" League

  • The "Warriors" entered Sunday night's game looking to improve to 3-0 while "Rimshot" was focused on capturing its first win. After a hard fought battle for 40 minutes, the "Warriors" edged "Rimshot" 73-66. Jason Townsley (Warriors) and Hank Kim (Warriors) combined for 50 points and seven assists, along with Jeff Chodorow (Warriors) who grabbed seven rebounds to help gain the victory for the team.  Steve Davis (Rimshot) sunk five three pointers off the bench to help keep his team close throughout. "Rimshot" now slides to 0-3 while the "Warriors" continue its winning streak and advance to 3-0 and a share of first place in the league.
  • "The Eskimo Brothers" and "The Cocksmen" both entered week three poised to notch its first win of the regular season. "The Eskimo Brothers" built up a quick double digit lead in the first five minutes, which proved to be too much for "The Cocksmen". Dylan Wolff (The Eskimo Brothers) led the team with 21 points from stellar shooting behind the arc. Eric Ammon (The Eskimo Brothers) and Zack Gerson (The Eskimo Brothers) also combined for 19 points and 14 rebounds to help their team record its first win with a 83-60 victory. Brian Gross (The Cocksmen) led his team with 19 points in a losing effort. "The Cocksmen" now slide to 0-3 while "The Eskimo Brothers" move up the rankings with a 1-2 record.
  • The "Ballers" were matched up against the "89ers" in Sunday night's late game. From the tipoff, the "89ers" looked to be overwhelmed by the overall outstanding play of the "Ballers". Gordy Scott (Ballers) led the team with 29 points and six  rebounds. Mike Pillar (Ballers) and Brian Cantwell (Ballers) also contributed 38 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists towards the 89-60 win over the "89ers". Matt Canny (89ers)  and Derek Bacon's (89ers) combined 35 points weren't enough in a losing effort against a strong squad. The "Ballers" improve to 3-0 while the "89ers" fall to 0-3 and still search for its first win.
  • "The "Longshots" challenged "Off Constantly" in a battle of two undefeated teams striving to remain in first place. Early and often, the "Longshots" pushed the tempo, scoring numerous jump shots and creating turnovers. As a result, the "Longshots" built a 30 point lead in the first half and never let up. Blake Hoffmann (Longshots) hit four of his six three pointers in the first five minutes of the game. Matt Carson (Longshots) and Tae Lee (Longshots) combined for 34 points, 4 assists and 13 rebounds to help their team capture an 88-38 victory. Greg Menegat also contributed a well-balanced performance of 13 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists.  In a losing effort, Todd Heathcote (Off Constantly) led his team in points and assists. The "Longshots" remain in first with an undefeated 3-0 record while "Off Constantly" suffers its first loss and slides to 2-1.
