Watch: 3 Injured as Underground Explosion Sends Manholes Flying
An explosion in an underground electrical vault sent manholes flying, hurting three people and knocking out power to Cal State Northridge.

An underground electrical vault explosion in Northridge sent a manhole cover skyward this afternoon, causing non-life- threatening injuries to three people when the steel lid struck two vehicles.
The blast in the 9100 block of Reseda Boulevard, near Nordhoff Street, was reported about 1:20 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The explosion also was suspected of causing a temporary power outage at nearby Cal State Northridge, according to the Department of Water and Power.
The manhole cover struck one vehicle and landed on another, causing a total of three vehicless to collide, according to the LAFD.

Three people were taken to hospitals with what were described as minor injuries.
