Whiz Kids: The Blue Wrecking Crew

Agoura Pony Baseball's Bronco National Dodgers cap a dream season.

Each week, Agoura Hills Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.

This week's Whiz Kids are the boys of summer, the Agoura Pony Baseball Bronco National Division Dodgers. This talented group of young men just topped off a baseball season most kids only dream about. Not only are they great athletes, they are young men of enthusiasm and good character, according to their coach, Ken Moss..

The Dodgers represent one of seven teams in the Agoura Pony Baseball National Division. These kids are 11 and 12 years old with a passion for the game of baseball. Coached by Moss and a host of terrific assistant coaches, these kids went 11-2-1 in the regular season to clinch a tie for first place.

The Dodgers appeared to be a hitting machine with which to be reckoned, scoring an astounding 232 runs for the season. It was by far the most of any team in the division, said Moss.

The team was lead by veteran ace pitchers Connor Stevens and Bryan Weitzman, which added power and speed to their winning streak, said Moss. Rounding out the pitching rotation was junk ball pitcher Micah Moss, who kept batters off balance with his deep pitch selection, he said.

According to Moss, the Dodgers were solid, defensively, as well with great field play by Cameron Kavanaugh (3rd base), Connor O'Brien (3rd base and left field) and Henry Bell (2nd base). Defying all odds as a left handed player, Ryan Satou ate up balls at short stop and made incredible scoops at first base. Ken Thompson was solid behind the plate, making several exciting plays and staking his claim as one of the finest catchers in the division. Jeremy Zacuto and Matt Michael showed off their abilities, making extraordinary game saving catches in the outfield.

If scoring 232 runs in a season wasn't enough, the Dodgers then went undefeated through pool play all the way to the final championship games of the post season playoff tournament. The Dodgers ended their season with a second place finish bringing their dream season to a close.
