1 Dead, 2 Injured In Bay Bridge Shooting, Crash

All lanes of the Bay Bridge have reopened, but morning rush hour was already impacted.

BAY AREA — All eastbound lanes on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge have reopened this morning after a shooting and subsequent crash left one person dead and two others injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The shooting was reported at 2:23 a.m. on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 west of Yerba Buena Island.

According to CHP Officer Bert Diaz, Three men were in an SUV in the No. 5 lane when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone shot at the SUV, causing it to collide with a sedan in the No. 3 lane.

The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the SUV were injured, including one with a gunshot wound, Diaz said.

The investigation into the shooting and crash closed all eastbound lanes on the Bay Bridge for about four hours. Three of the lanes had reopened by about 6:30 a.m., and the remaining lanes reopened as of 7:45 a.m.
