Elderly, Lifelong Alameda Resident Killed In House Fire

One neighbor said that he had lived in the home that burned his entire life.

ALAMEDA, CA — An elderly Alameda man who died before dawn in a house fire had lived in the home his entire life, according to a neighbor. The victim's name has not been released.

Neighbor Jacqui Marriott said the man was in his early 90s and had a caretaker who stayed with him during the week, but wasn't there when the fire broke out. She said the elderly man was forgetful and had started a kitchen fire in the past.

The Alameda Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

The fire in the 2300 block of Eagle Avenue was reported 5:50 a.m. Crews found the man at 6:15 a.m. and at 6:25 a.m. crews had knocked down the blaze, Fire Capt. Jim Colburn said.

There were no injuries reported.
