1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized In BART Police Shooting In Oakland
Oakland Police recovered a second gun at the scene, in addition to the officer's.

OAKLAND, CA — One man is dead and a second is in the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound after a shooting involving a BART Police Officer near the West Oakland BART station late Wednesday afternoon, according to Oakland Police. However, OPD spokeswoman Johnna Watson says that a gun that did not belong to the officer was recovered at the scene.
Preliminary reports are that two men were involved in an altercation, and one shot the other. At that point, the gunman was shot by the BART officer.
It happened in the area of 7th and Chester streets.

At a 6 p.m. news briefing, Watson told reporters that OPD received a request for assistance at 4:41 p.m. Responding officers found two suspects down, and a BART officer in full uniform at the scene, which is in OPD jurisdiction.
Watson said that OPD will conduct a criminal investigation. No further media briefings will be provided tonight.
