4 Dead In Family Massacre, Toddler In Critical Condition; Arrest: PD
Police say a man shot his whole family — his wife, 2 sons, father-in-law and mother-in-law — at the family home in Alameda. Shooter ID'd.
ALAMEDA, CA — An Alameda man massacred his family at their home Wednesday night, police say. The man's wife, 6-year-old son, father-in-law and mother-in-law were all shot to death. His one-year-old son was shot and is hospitalized in critical condition. Police took the accused shooter, Shane Killian, 54, into custody. He is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Police recovered multiple firearms and a significant amount evidence from the home, working through the night on the investigation.
A motive for the shooting has not been announced publicly.
The shooting happened at 9 p.m. in the 400 block of Kitty Hawk Road, a tidy neighborhood of single family homes. "While clearing the residence, APD located multiple family members suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, including juveniles," police said in a Facebook post at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. "A person of interest is in custody."
Police say they are "deeply saddened" by the family tragedy, but there is no threat to members of the public.
