ACLC Named "Scholar School" on State Honor Roll

Sacramento, CA – May 20, 2016 — The Educational Results Partnership (ERB) and the California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) recently announced that the Alameda Community Learning Center (ACLC), a 6-12 public charter school located in Alameda, was named a “Scholar School” on the 2015 California Honor Roll. ACLC is the only high school in Alameda, and one of only six high schools in Alameda County, to receive this distinction.

“Despite a national focus on a failing education system, many of our schools are doing well and successfully preparing students for college and career, said James Lanich, President and CEO of ERP and CBEE. “After an extensive analysis of student data for every public school in California, Alameda Community Learning Center was a clear leader in getting students to grade level and beyond,” Lanich said.

The 2015 Honor Roll recognizes public elementary, middle, and high schools that demonstrate consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. For high schools, Honor Roll recognition also includes measures of college readiness. This year, the California Honor Roll recognized 1,714 higher performing, higher poverty schools that are distinguished for their academic achievement and closing achievement gaps.

Through national research, the ERP and CBEE has identified a common set of success factors in higher-performing Honor Roll schools. These include: maintaining clear, specific learning objectives aligned to college and career readiness; setting high expectations for all students; ongoing collaboration among teachers to improve practice; use of data to pinpoint challenges and monitor progress; continual intervention for struggling students; and mastery of content knowledge and deploying resources to support schools’ efforts in preparing all students for college and career.

“Honor Roll schools are overcoming challenges and obstacles for all students every day and are especially succeeding with kids who have been historically underserved. Our goal is to highlight their results, and provide a voice to these outstanding educators so that their success can be emulated in other places,” said Lanich.

The annual Honor Roll program is made possible with support from numerous businesses and organizations including State Farm, AAA, Macy’s, Wells Fargo, Enterprise Rent‐A‐Car and several private foundations.
