Driver Who Severed Gas Line Arrested For DUI
The driver had to be taken to the hospital first.

ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda police arrested a man early Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash that severed a natural gas line and resulted in a shelter-in-place order, according to a police spokesman.
The driver, 24-year-old Dewayne Carter of Alameda, was allegedly driving west on Clement Avenue at about 1 a.m., blew through a stop sign at Grand Street and plowed through a chain link fence at the old Pennzoil facility, according to police spokesman Lt. Hosh Durani.
Carter's BMW sedan then slammed into an exposed PG&E gas line where it connects to the building's meter, Durani said.
