Alameda Has New Wifi Hotspot Lending Program

The Alameda Free Library has launched a new mobile wifi hotspot lending program, expanding free internet access to patrons.

Hotspots are portable, easy to use, and provide a connection to the internet through the Verizon cellular network. Verizon offers 4G LTE connectivity and the signal strength will vary based on the physical location of the hotspot. To use a hotspot, patrons must have an internet ready device such as a computer, laptop, or tablet. Each mobile hotspot kit contains a hotspot device, USB-C cable w/power brick, a quick start guide, and a case.

The three-year lending program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The Main Library is located at 1550 Oak Street and is served by AC Transit routes 21 and 51A. Bicycle parking racks are available at the library. The Bay Farm Island Library is located at 3221 Mecartney Road and the West End Library is located at 788 Santa Clara Avenue. All three locations are wheelchair accessible.
