Alameda Man Identified As Estuary Victim
A minivan drove into the estuary Sunday morning.

ALAMEDA, CA — One person has been confirmed dead after a minivan went into the Oakland Estuary Sunday morning. The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Paul Scherer of Alameda by the Alameda County coroner's bureau and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
The van went into the water shortly after 8 a.m. A dive team from the sheriff's office assisted Oakland
firefighters in the recovery of the vehicle, which was found in about 30 feet of water, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said.
The driver was the only person in the van, Kelly said.

The vehicle was raised, then floated to a boat ramp where it was recovered in the late afternoon.
