Alameda School Receives Grant At Brandon Crawford, Wells Fargo Event

Alameda Science and Technology Institute was awarded $5,000 to create an urban farm and real world lab space.

Alameda Science and Technology Institute in Alameda last week was the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the KNBR Step Up to the Plate for Education.

San Francisco Giant Brandon Crawford and Jim Foley, president of Wells Fargo’s Pacific North region, presented $100,000 in grant checks to 29 winning schools in the Bay Area, including Alameda Science and Tech, to support their sports, musical, art and education programs.

The Alameda school grant will be used to expand the current garden space to create a wholesome urban farm and provide a real world lab space.

World champion baseball player Crawford spoke to the grant winners about the importance of working hard in both sports and academics: “As a Bay Area native, I am fortunate to play professional baseball here,” Crawford said. “As a kid, my mother and father always emphasized the importance of an education—above and beyond participating in sports. It is an honor to be part of a program that gives Bay Area kids the opportunity to expand their academic and athletic horizons.”

This is one of many programs Wells Fargo funds as part of its community commitment to education.
