Car Plows Into Crowd Injuring 7, Including A Child After First Fridays Event

OAKLAND, CA — The Oakland Police Department has spoken out about an incident Friday night during which seven people were reportedly hurt after a driver drove onto a sidewalk, careening through a crowd gathered for a First Fridays event.

According to the Oakland Police Department: "To ensure accurate information is shared: We want to be clear that the violence reported early Saturday morning occurred well after First Friday had officially ended and was not connected to the event in any way."

KRON4 News reported that seven people were injured after a car slammed into a crowd in Oaklands Uptown district just after 1:30 a.m.

The outlet also reported that officers responded to the area of 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue after "multiple 911 reports of fighting."

The car drove onto the sidewalk, striking the pedestrians; the driver then fled on foot, KRON4 News reported.

The San Francisco Chronicle said that one of the seven injured was a child; all of the pedestrians were in stable condition Saturday afternoon, according to police.
