Car Plows Into Crowd Injuring 7, Including A Child After First Fridays Event
The crash happened as police were called to the area near Telegraph Avenue in response to multiple reports of fighting.
OAKLAND, CA — The Oakland Police Department has spoken out about an incident Friday night during which seven people were hurt after a driver drove onto a sidewalk, careening through a crowd gathered for a First Fridays event.
According to the Oakland Police Department: "To ensure accurate information is shared: We want to be clear that the violence reported early Saturday morning occurred well after First Friday had officially ended and was not connected to the event in any way."
The vehicle collision involving pedestrians occurred just after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, in the 500 block of 18th Street, Oakland police said.

Officers were in the area responding to reports of fights near 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue, police said.
They were then directed to a call about a vehicle driving on the sidewalk and striking pedestrians in the 500 block of 18th Street, police said.

When officers arrived, they saw two individuals running from the area; officers located and arrested them and recovered two firearms, police said.
Five adults and one juvenile were taken to an area hospital and were last listed in stable condition, police said.
Another adult was privately transported to a hospital and is also listed as stable, police said.
The driver of the vehicle left the area on foot; however, thanks to community tips and evidence, OPD is following up on multiple leads and expects to arrest the driver in the near future, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department's felony assault unit at 510-238-3426.
