RV Fire Sends Thick Black Smoke Into Sky Near I-880 In Oakland

The fire sent dark smoke billowing into the sky, but firefighters say there is no threat to nearby buildings or I-880.

OAKLAND, CA — Oakland firefighters are battling a large vehicle fire under I-880, the fire department said.

An RV caught fire Monday afternoon at 5th Avenue and East 8th Street, the Oakland Fire Department said. The fire cause a large plume of dark smoke visible from I-880.

Crews continue to get water on this large vehicle fire under I-880. The public can expect to see smoke from this area for another 15 mins or so. There is no threat to structures of neighbors, and the flames did not reach any freeway infrastructure. There are no traffic alerts on I-880 as of 2:10 p.m. Monday.
