Perhaps you've heard the rumor that the wildly popular Bakesale Betty is coming to the Island, bringing her wildly popular fried chicken sandwiches with her?
But, no, not true, says Alison Barakat-Camp, the electric-blue-wig-wearing owner of the sandwich shop that’s enchanted East Bay taste buds in recent years.
Though the tale does have roots in reality, she says.
“My husband was looking at a couple spaces in Alameda just to see what’s there,” Barakat-Camp said.
She says that her husband, Michael Camp, is always on the lookout for new locations. It’s important, says Barakat-Camp, to make connections with landlords and property owners, "Because you never know, something might come up that's too good," she said.
But she's not looking to take on more responsbilities in the near future. "I have two children and one on the way that's due in six weeks," she said.

Plus, the long lines of people spilling out of Bakesale Betty’s two Oakland locations keep the pair busy.
But one thing is true.
“We love Alameda,” Barakat-Camp said. “In the grand scheme of things, we’d never discount the possibility of opening up there.”
Barakat-Camp says she loves Alameda's old-time atmosphere, the family-friendly vibe and her loyal fans from the Island.
And when life calms down, she says, she can definitely see Bakesale Betty setting up a third location in Alameda. Perhaps in the next three to five years.
