Berkeley Man Already Convicted of Alameda Bank Robbery is Charged with Murder

A Berkeley man who’s already serving a term in federal prison for an armed bank robbery in Alameda has now been charged with murder for a fatal shooting in East Oakland last year.

Calvin Earl Odom, 25, was recently charged in connection with the shooting death of 37-year-old Vittorio Jackson in the 8900 block of International Boulevard at about 4:10 p.m. on March 31, 2013. In addition to murder, Odom is charged with being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm because prosecutors say he has three prior felony convictions for drug and illegal gun charges in Alameda County between 2007 and 2011.

In an unrelated case, Odom and co-defendant Craig Goatley, 28, pleaded guilty in January to armed bank robbery for stealing nearly $9,000 from a Citibank branch at 1526 Webster St. in Alameda on Aug. 3, 2013. Federal authorities said Odom and Goatley were arrested on Aug. 14, 2013, after a high-speed chase in which they were in a stolen car that was driven by Goatley. Odom was identified as a suspect in the Alameda robbery after he left a note at the scene with his fingerprints on it, prosecutors said.

In April, Odom was sentenced to 86 months in federal prison and Goatley was sentenced to 78 months.
