Alameda Point: Fireworks at Council Meeting

There were some fireworks Tuesday night at the special meeting of the Alameda City Council to discuss Alameda Point strategy.

Tuesday night's special city council meeting to discuss Alameda Point got was a little heated, a little passionate, a little confrontational, a little confusing. And surprisingly unattended by members of the community. Councilmembers tried to reach agreement on staff's proposal, but it just didn't happen Tuesday night. As a result, the discussion is going to roll over to another meeting on June 5.

I spent some time trying to parse out the different arguments that were brought up at the meeting, and let me tell you, there were some arguments. I feel like this one is an important issue for Alameda. People are confused about the history of the Point and the politics and the myriad issues and constraints facing the city and developers. People are discouraged by the lack of movement. People are disillusioned and distrustful of development interests after a few bad starts. People I've talked to at least.

I do hope the community takes this opportunity to enter the discussion.
